This Month's Artist: Jeff Montagne

When I was a child watching cartoons, I wanted to be a cartoonist, as I got older I realized that my niche was in wildlife and landscape. The beauty of nature is all around, and it should be protected for our children and for everyone to enjoy. This is why I started with drawing landscape. It demonstrates the vibrant colors and peaceful tranquility of nature. My preferred media is pencil, when I am drawing I have the ability to be up close and personal with my subject which provides more detail. While working with wildlife, this media works best for me because the amount of detail requires patience and time to define the animal. With landscape I use color, which makes the landscape standout. Now although my media of choice is pastels I have used a variety of different types of media it exhibits nature’s colorful scenery. Currently, I’m working on the series on display at Artistic Edge Gallery, that focuses on the beauty of people’s homes, how they reflect themselves in their homes, and creating a meaningful memento. Some have been sold to the home-owners, but graciously returned for this October exhibit .
