Matthew Lawrence Viewers and photographers alike, often have multiple perspectives of the same image – which makes the miracle of photography. Some artists say that photography for them is a way of self-expression. For me it is not self-expression, but more self-realization. I see the world as it is – in all its beauty and ugliness. I sometimes give my photos that hidden identity from reality, hoping the image also gives the viewer a moment of escape. Through photography I find refuge and truly relax having a goodtime within the subject matter.

My Name is Matthew Lawrence, I am a veteran and former police officer of 30years plus combined, beginning my dream life as a professional photographer. I’ve been shooting photos for more than 20 years now. As I have gotten older, I have come to enjoy full and vivid colored compositions. Photographer Elisa Paloschi, said that she became interested in photography back when film was expensive and cameras were not toys. I to remember those days – although, I was self tough and shooting only black and white for the love of the contrast between light and dark. I got a lot of influence from Gordon Parks and Helmut Newton during this time…I wanted to emulate what they saw.

I think now days I am influenced by many images rather that a particular artist style. I have traveled to many places (via military assignments & conflicts). However my vision and passion has fallen towards the pacific realm where I find myself combining photography with fine arts, from portraits to travel – it’s all just pristine beauty.
